– pool

Heat like the crackling of the unfolding of the plastic pool taken from the galvanised iron shed baking in the sun. Water seeps hot and scalding from the hose before it can start to fill. Steel corners swept of spiderwebs, Tomorrow, gum nuts will litter its now dusty floor. Lolling in board shorts and zinc and beer bellies floating, a bit of relief might be had, for a short while, like a hippo in a half filled swamp – something cool is better than none. Like a tinnie or two slapped into the palm of the hand.
