– untitled, november 12, 2010

a man sits

looking at a heron by a lake

in a cafe along

state street

north

as I walk by

pausing before

he turns to the next

snapshot.

In its reflection

is there

back-of-the-drawer-regret,

subject not skill,

or are its

pixels catalogued

oily resin fondly held

between thumb and forefinger,

weighted against other

feathers and stalks and beaks?

or is it

a welcome bird in a park from that

holiday where he took photos

to remember?
